This online Privacy Policy was last updated on October 5, 2009. Levi Strauss & Co. is deeply committed to maintaining the privacy of all online visitors to its family of websites, including: www.levistrauss.com | www.signaturelevistrauss.com | www.levi.com | www.dockers.com | http://goforth.levi.com. Our websites have different purposes and functionalities. We explain these differences in this Privacy Policy, so please read it carefully. We are interested in hearing your ideas on how we can improve the way we collect and use your information. Email your suggestions here. We want to make your experience on Levi Strauss & Co.'s websites as satisfying and safe as reasonably possible. 1. Our Commitment
2. What Information We Collect and How We Collect It What Information Do We Collect? We collect two types of information on our websites:
We collect PII and/or Non-PII depending on the purpose and functionality of each website. CLICK HERE for a chart describing WHAT INFO WE COLLECT on each of our websites: How Do We Collect Information? We collect Personally Identifiable Information when you register for promotional emails, set up a shopping account, contact customer service, and post items on our user-generated blogs and sites. We collect Anonymous Information through the use of "cookies" and "web beacons." Cookies and web beacons work together to collect and process information regarding how your computer interacts with our Levi's® (www.levi.com) and Dockers® (www.dockers.com) websites. This information is used by our business partners, Razorfish and GSI Commerce, to improve our websites and enhance our product offerings and promotions. What is a cookie? A "cookie" is a computer file that acts as an identification card for your computer. When you visit our Levi's® or Dockers® sites, unique cookies are placed on your browser by our business partners, Razorfish and GSI Commerce. The purpose of the cookie is to distinguish your browser from all other browsers that visit our websites. By recognizing your browser, we can serve you better. For example, the cookies allow us to hold the selections in your shopping cart when you navigate away from the order page and then return to complete the order; because of the cookie, you don't have to start over with your shopping. We can also keep track of what pages of our website your browser visited and whether you purchased a product. That way we can measure such things as how effective our advertising campaigns have been. Working with our partners Razorfish and GSI, we can also provide you with customized ads that we think will be more useful based on your past purchases and page visits to our Levi's® and Dockers® sites. What is a web beacon? When you visit our Levi's® or Dockers® sites, web beacons, which are managed by our business partner, Razorfish, will recognize specific cookies that have been placed on your browser by us and by other entities in the Razorfish Network of Publishers ("Publishers" are content sites that sell advertising space on their sites). Web beacons record that a recognized cookie has accessed a page or a certain part of a page on our website, depending on where the web beacon is located on the Levi's® or Dockers® website. For example, a web beacon located on our purchase confirmation page will record that a browser with a recognized cookie accessed that page which means that we can conclude that the browser was used to purchase a product. The web beacon does not, however, tell us that you have purchased a product because the cookie is only the browser's identification card; it is not your personal identification card. (In other words, none of the information obtained by the web beacon is connected to any Personally Identifiable Information). We use web beacons to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and to improve our websites by seeing what pages are visited and whether those visits result in purchases. Web beacons also allow our partner Razorfish to select and serve banner advertisements to your browser that you would be most likely to be interested in, as discussed in section below titled "How Our Business Partners Use Information." Purposes for Information Collection There are three important reasons why we (working with our trusted business partners) collect information on our websites.
Because we collect only the information that is reasonably necessary to improve a given website and your experience in relation to that website, we collect and use information differently at different websites. CLICK HERE for a chart describing HOW WE USE INFO collected on each of our websites: Disclosure and Sharing of Information We will not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to outside parties without providing you with advance notice and an opportunity to consent. "Outside parties" do not include companies wholly-owned by Levi Strauss & Co. or trusted business partners, such as GSI Commerce, who help operate and provide services on our websites. We treat your PII as confidential, and we require, by contract, each of our business partners to also treat as confidential all of the PII obtained from our websites. Our business partners, in turn, may share information with their own service providers pursuant to similar confidentiality restrictions. We reserve the right to disclose your PII and any non-PII to the extent we reasonable believe that disclosure is required by law, to enforce our website policies, or to protect your's or others' rights, property or safety. How Our Business Partners Use Information We work with industry-leading business partners who help us operate our websites and provide important services to our customers and visitors.
We also may collect and store information about you that we receive from other sources, to enable us to update and correct the information contained in our database and to provide product recommendations and special offers that we think will interest you. From time to time, we partner with trusted third parties to design and operate contests or promotional events for our valued customers and visitors. Some of these contests and events may be online at our Go Forth website (http://goforth.levi.com). All Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Anonymous Information (non-PII) obtained through your participation in our promotional events will be subject to this Privacy Policy, as well as the privacy policies and practices of our promotional event partner. We will require, by contract, that our partners treat any PII and non-PII that may be obtained through a contest or promotional event in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy. 4. Your Choices Regarding Your Information PII / Promotional Emails There are several ways in which you can tell us whether or not you want to receive promotional communications from us. When you set up an account, or click on "Manage Your Account" within the Help Desk area of one of our e-commerce Levi's® (www.levi.com) and Dockers® (www.dockers.com) websites, or place an order, you will have an opportunity to make or change your selections in this regard. You also will have an opportunity to change these selections by clicking on an "unsubscribe" link contained in promotional emails we send you. If you have any difficulty managing your communication preferences, please CLICK HERE to contact our Customer Service Department or email customerservice@levisstore.com. You can access, correct and update certain PII that you have provided to us at the Levi's® (www.levi.com) and Dockers® (www.dockers.com) websites by clicking on "Manage Your Account" within the Help Desk area of those websites. Non-PII / Tailored Advertisements Most browsers accept cookies automatically. We recommend that you leave cookies "turned on" so that we can offer you a better shopping experience on our e-commerce Levi's® (www.levi.com) and Dockers® (www.dockers.com) websites. However, you can easily disable your cookies. Turning off your cookies not only prevents cookies from being placed on your browser, but also automatically renders ineffective all web beacons. This is because on our Levi's® and Dockers® websites, web beacons only work and provide any relevant information in conjunction with cookies. For example, if you use Windows, you can disable cookies from Microsoft Explorer by clicking on "Tools," "Internet options" and adjusting your settings under the "Security" tab. For more information and assistance disabling cookies on your browser, check out http://www.aboutcookies.org. You can also go to the website of the National Advertising Initiative ("NAI") site, at http://www.networkadvertising.org, which provides an opt-out tool and instructions for disabling the cookies for the major NAI-participating advertising networks. We are happy to help you get rid of unwanted cookies. Please contact us if you have any questions at the email, telephone number and postal address provided below. Levi Strauss & Co. websites may contain "links" to other websites. We recommend that you check the specific privacy policy of any site before providing any PII or allowing non-PII to be collected. 6. We Do Not Collect Children's Information Levi Strauss & Co.'s websites are not intended to be directed towards individuals under 13 years of age ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect any PII from Children. If any Children contacts us and provides PII, we will take reasonable measures to alert a parent or legal guardian and also to delete such information. 7. Safeguarding Your Information Information you provide to us is protected from public access by a password that you provide upon registration on one of our brand-focused websites. In order to help protect your personal information further, you should be careful about providing your password to others. If you wish to cancel your password, or if you become aware of any loss, theft or unauthorized use of your password, please click here to contact our Customer Service Department. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt transmissions of sensitive information from your computer to our servers. We require our trusted business partners, by contract, to protect information obtained from our websites. Our business partners, in turn, require their partners to contractually agree to similar restrictions. 8. Online Updates to the Privacy Policy If we modify this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised Privacy Policy on this website. We also may post a notice on this website or send an email describing the changes. You should check this website regularly to see if any recent changes to this Privacy Policy have occurred. We will not make any change to this Privacy Policy that will change our collection and use of your PII without first obtaining your consent.
